I don’t know how many times I’ve finished reading an awesome book or series and wondered “how am I gonna top that?” or “what do I read now?”

Luckily, I found some really awesome websites to help find the next perfect book to add to the collection.

First off, figure out your favorite books and authors. Normally, I have an ongoing list of my favorite books. I have a favorite in almost every genre. My favorite authors list are mostly authors of series. Also, it helps to know your favorite genres. I tend to go towards horror, mystery and thriller. I also love urban fantasy, but I tend to stay away from full blown fantasy.  However, there are exceptions to that rule. Right now, I am pretty deep into Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series, which is awesome if you like fantasy.

But what happens when you don’t know what to read next? I’m sure you have a shelf of unread books somewhere, just like me. What if you just got done with an awesome book, that was mind blowing and you want another one like it?

These websites could help you figure that out. I’m going to start with my favorite!

I love love love this website. It is super easy to use and if you find one you’re interested in, it takes you to Amazon or GoodReads so you can buy it.

I found this after I read All The Bright Places, after I got done ugly crying and got myself together. I loved this book so much I wanted more like it.

All you have to do is type in the title of the book or author and this website brings up a whole list of books that are similar.

This one is similar to What Should I Read Next, with a few differences. Start by typing in the book or author you like, choose the book from the list and this website recommends books. This also brings up Amazon reviews about the book, the paperback price, and a link to buy it.

Also you can either thumbs up or thumbs down books you’ve already read to make agree or disagree that the recommended books are a good fit.

LibraryThing

This one is a little harder to navigate, but it still recommends some great books. I also have not had a whole bunch of time to mess around with it other than to add some books to my library.  LibraryThing is a place where you can keep a log of all the books you have read or want to read, and recommends books after you add them to your list.

First, you have to make an account. The hardest part of navigating this website, is adding books to your list. If you go to the Add Books tab, it brings you to a search bar. Once you type in a book you want to add to your shelf it brings up a list, click on the book title, not the book cover. This adds the book to your library. After you add a few books, go to your home page and there will be a list of automatic recommended books based on your library.

This website can be hard to navigate but is really good for people who want to connect with other readers. There are tons of people who have added the same books as you and they recommend titles as well and you can see what they have added to their libraries.

GoodReads

GoodReads is another place where you can log the books you want to read or have already finished. Once you make an account, you can join groups, add books to your shelves and once you have finished a book, you can write a review on it. GoodReads has tab for recommandations too.

Whichbook

So this one is a little different. Instead of typing in a title or an author, you use sliders to determine aspects of the book you want to read. For example, if you want a book that is more happy than sad, you would move the arrow on the slider toward the happy end. If you don’t want to use the sliders there is an option to pick what kind of character, plot and setting you want, this also can get really specific with age, race, and sexuality.

If you find a book you think is interesting on Whichbook, underneath the description there is a tab that brings you to a list of books that are similar. This website is good if you have no idea what you want to read next, or if you want something brand new, but not the best if you have a certain type book in mind.
