The streaming world is getting extremely crowded these days, Geek Gals! And one channel we all signed up for was Disney Plus, which released on Nov. 12, 2019, to get our Star Wars, Marvel, and access to the films in the Disney vault!
But How Good Is Disney Plus?
https://tenor.com/embed.jsNow that it’s been out for a while and we’ve all calmed down from Baby Yoda fever, how good is Disney Plus actually? Has it delivered in bringing the best of the geek universes to us? Also, after the conclusion of The Mandalorian, older subscribers complained that there wasn’t more “adult” content offered. The movies from Pixar and the immense Disney vault are fun, but how many of us already had these on DVD or through other streaming services? And then if you’ve subscribed to Netflix, Apple TV +. Hulu, Prime and/or any of the others, that’s an additional 63 bucks a month…70 bucks if you get the Disney Plus package with ESPN+ and Hulu!
Let’s Rewind A Bit To The Mandalorian
https://tenor.com/embed.jsDisney Plus burst through the gates with The Mandalorian series. This smash hit explored the mysterious Mandalorian warriors in the Star Wars universe, bounty-hunting, and most importantly, spawned a million Baby Yoda memes. The show was a critical hit and Season 2 is already filming and slated for Oct. 2020. It was a grand debut for the streaming network…how do you follow that up?
What’s Next?
During the Super Bowl on Feb. 2, Disney debuted their preview of the following shows: Wanda Vision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Loki in a 30-second spot. Originally slated for release in 2021, Disney has bumped up The Falcon and The Winter Soldier to Aug. 2020 and Wandavision to Dec. 2020. Loki is scheduled for spring 2021 with no exact date yet. The TV spot featured brief clips of the shows and left many wondering what in the world is Wandavision? Is this enough to keep subscribers happy?
But What Is not Happening…? Kenobi!?
Filming for the much-talked about series featuring Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi has been delayed again to early 2021. There have been several delays but according to McGregor, the series is still on track and will premiere in late 2021 possibly. The latest hitch was when Disney let go of writer Hossein Amini to overhaul the scripts. Hmm.
But wait, there’s More!
Diego Luna will reprise his role as Cassian Andor and Alan Tudyk will return as sassy droid K-2SO set before the events of Rogue One. It will be a 10 episode series that will show the inner workings of the Rebel Alliance and according to Disney, will feature high-stakes missions and spy storylines.
Expanding Further into the Marvel Universe
She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight are all in development to be live action series and are set to debut in 2022. All these female-centered superheroes will take the Marvel Universe into Phase 4 and coincide with the release of the Doctor Strange sequel. That sounds amazing!
So, to cancel or not to cancel?
https://tenor.com/embed.jsMy husband and I discussed this during our monthly bill powwow and we realized we have not watched Disney Plus since The Mandalorian (Nov. 2019), except for me watching The Cat From Outer Space when I had the flu last month and just wanted something with cats. We decided to cancel as we won’t watch anything else on Disney Plus until The Falcon and The Winter Soldier starts in Aug. 2020 and The Mandalorian returns in October. We have most of Star Wars and the Marvel Universe movies saved on digital or on DVDs, And we regularly watch Netflix and Amazon Prime. You have to budget your geekdoms!
