If you’re a crafter like me, then odds are your crafting space can get pretty messy. Here are three great (and cheap) DIYs to organize your space. I found the DIYs on TikTok and the materials at Dollar Tree.

*There were a few items I already had at home like the pliers, glue, and cardboard.

Basket Hanger / Mug Rack

What You’ll Need:

• 2 broom poles (the cleaning aisle)
• 2-3 door hanger racks (bathroom aisle)
• 4-6 wire baskets (kitchen utensil aisle) 
• Pliers*
• Zip-ties (tools aisle)
• Permanent marker (stationary supplies aisle) 
• E6000 adhesive*
• Spray paint (optional)

Start your DIY:

First, we’re going to use the pliers to bend the hooks that would normally go over the door. Bend and forth slowly and evenly until they snap off. I used some duct tape to cover the edges because they were a bit sharp.

Next we’re going to lay one of the broom poles and line up one end of the door hanger against the pole. You may have to use the pliers again to flatten the metal if it became a little warbled from removing the hook.

I laid both hangers along the pole and put one basket on just so I could see where the hangers should be placed. I used the permanent marker to mark the spots on the pole. The E6000 glue can be an additional stability. You could also use a hot glue gun. (However be aware that hot glue doesn’t always like to stick to metal objects.)

After I glued it down, I took the zip-ties and placed them around the pole and the door hanger in between the bars. Pull them as tight as you can so that it’s as secure as possible.

Repeat this for the other side and for the second door hanger. (I actually have enough space for a third door hanger so I will probably add another one later.) 

Make sure to snip the zip-ties short after everything is dry! I ended up twisting the zip-ties to the back after cutting them because they were sharp, and I didn’t want them exposed. You can spray paint it a solid color to make it more unified. (I plan to do this once I add the third door hanger.)

Tada! Hang it up and you’re all done! I used mine for craft supplies, but it can be used for anything that needs organizing.

Paint Rack

What You’ll Need:

• 4 Napkin holders (kitchen utensils aisle)
• 1 Paper towel holder (kitchen utensils aisle)
• Zip-Ties (tools aisle)

Start Your DIY:

Align two of the napkin holders against the paper towel holder on opposite sides. Use zip-ties to secure them tightly to the paper towel holder. 

Repeat this process with the next two napkin holders on top of the two you just secured. 

Turn the zip-ties inward so the edges are not exposed and cut all them. 

Lay your paint bottles inside. They fit perfectly!

Mini Cubbie Shelf

What You’ll Need:

• 4 -16 square baskets/bins (usually near kitchen aisle)
• Cardboard
• Scissors
• Hot glue or E6000 adhesive
• *Zip ties (tools aisle)
• Wrapping paper OR contact paper (party supplies aisle OR dishes aisle)
• Spray paint (optional)

Disclaimer: I could not find the exact baskets for this creation so I used what I could find. Baskets/bins that are cubed and not angled to have a wider opening are best.

This organization hack uses as many baskets you want. You can add baskets to your heart’s content.  You have the freedom to make it square, rectangular, or steps (ie- 3 x 3 or 2 x 4, 1 x 2 x 3, etc.). In this example, I wanted it small enough to fit on my desk so I’m using small bins, but they can be with any size. 

Start Your DIY:

Align your baskets/bins as you want them and then use your choice of glue to connect them. 

Since my bins are slightly angled, I used cardboard to make small wedges and glued them in the back between the bins to make sure they were flat. 

I measured and laid the contact paper inside each bin for some decorative flare. 

NOTE: If your baskets have holes use zip ties to strengthen and hold the structure together. Cut cardboard down to fit inside each cubby as a way to cover the holes and so that items won’t fall through. Use the wrapping paper or contact paper to cover the cardboard to make it more decorative. 

If you want to give a little more “Omph!” you can spray paint it your favorite color before adding the cardboard and wrapping paper.
