On Nov. 16-18, the Jacob Javits Center housed the second annual Anime NYC anime convention. While it’s held at the same location as New York Comic Con, the two conventions aren’t related. At the moment, Anime NYC is one of the biggest anime conventions in New York. In its first year, it attracted 20,000 and that number has grown to 36,000 attendees. Despite the growing number, the convention is still relatively well run and was a great time.

Guests

Anime NYC had great guests this year such as voice actors from series such as Mob Psycho 100 and Bleach. There were also animation guest like Shigeto Koyama who worked on works such as Big Hero 6, Kill la Kill and Panty and Stocking. Anime NYC invited cosplay guest like Mica Burton and Vampy Bit Me as well.

The convention also had musical guest for two days of concerts through the Anisong World Matsuri event. The organizers gathered numerous Japanese musicians such as Morning Musume, Shoko Nakagawa, and others. Overall, the selection of guest was varied and attention catching.

Panels

There were a good amount of panels that gave insider sneak peeks into up and coming anime series and movies. There was a premiere of Mob Psycho 100’s second season where guests were able to watch the first episode ahead of everyone else. The voice actor for the character Mob was also a guest. Fate/stay night also had an event with all the main voice actors who answered questions and interacted with fans. The panel attendees saw a trailer for the Heaven’s Feel movie that is due to release next year which was then followed by a concert starring the amazing musical artist Aimer. Fairy Tail had a panel in honor of the arrival of the last season. Voice actors from the series were also present during this event.

The fan run panels also covered some interesting topics. There was a panel that detailed how to work and study in Japan for those who were interested. There was another panel that gave advice on japanese street fashion such a lolita. Others featured topics such as cosplay and disability plus anime series that are  LGBTQ+ friendly.

Artist Alley

I’ve been going to conventions for a few years now and this con, in my opinion, has one of the best artist alleys I’ve seen for in awhile. Last year, many expressed the same sentiment and they didn’t disappoint this tea either. Even though the con is specifically aimed at anime fans, the artist alley had content from games, movies, comics, TV shows and the like. The artist there were all varied with different and unique art styles. It would be easy to find art pieces or merch that was appealing no matter what type of content one was searching for.

Conclusion
