Geek Gals, I’m not gonna lie…between this trailer dropping on Friday April 12 and the last season of Game of Thrones kicking off on Sunday April 14, April may end me. Kidding! I have to stick around until at least December to see this movie and see how the Skywalker Saga ends!

So luckily, the panel for Star Wars 9 was at noon, and my lunch was at 11:45  (I’m a teacher) so perfect timing to catch the end of the panel and introduction of the trailer. I plugged my earphones in and escaped to a galaxy far, far away.  Check it out for yourself!

Trailer Breakdown

Wow!! Rey Is Skywalking

As the trailer opens, we hear Rey breathing and waiting for something to approach, Luke Skywalker is doing a voiceover, explaining how she has received knowledge and now this is her fight… A modified tie fighter approaches…that appears to be the Silencer, Kylo Ren’s Ship. And then she appears to flip over it!  Are they fighting? Or is he finally getting to train Rey?

Red is for Kylo Ren…

Next shot is Kylo Ren and stormtroopers marching through another forest, backlit in red, which is very on-brand for Kylo…anyhow! He’s kicking butt and then it quickly cuts to a shot of someone (with hair on sleeves or hairy hands?) piecing together Kylo Ren’s helmet with red detail…

Lando is back!!

Then, in quick succession, shots of Poe and Finn…BB8 and his new droid buddy, D-O…then OMG it’s LANDO CALRISSIAN!! Back in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, with Chewie as co-pilot! Does he finally get his ship back?

Then Poe, Finn and C3PO on some sort of barge or skiff ship, back in the desert…perhaps the same desert as the opening shot with Rey? Then the medal awarded to Han and Luke in the awards ceremony at the end of A New Hope being held by Leia perhaps? Mourning Han and Luke?

This is followed by a beautiful shot of Rey and Leia hugging…I’m not crying, you’re crying!

Which Death Star??? Wait what???

Then the gang’s all together as Poe, Finn, Rey, Chewbacca, BB8 and C3PO walk to the edge of a field which appears to look over at a remnant of the Death Star sitting in an ocean…Now, not sure if this is from A New Hope or from Return of the Jedi, but it is definitely part of a Death Star!!!!!

I know that laugh…

Luke is saying how “…no one’s ever really gone…”, it cuts to black and OMG THAT LAUGH…I KNOW THAT LAUGH… Yep, it’s Emperor Palpatine! And at the panel at Star Wars Celebration, Ian McDiarmid, the actor who portrays Palpatine, came out on stage after the trailer! Confirming Palpatine is indeed back!

And finally, a title…

Then the title card appears, The Rise of Skywalker…

WOW, okay Geek Gals, I’m not gonna lie… I am a bit burnt out on the whole Star Wars sequels and was skeptical about Star Wars Episode IX. So the moment I saw Rey leap onto the oncoming ship, I was back and LIKE YEAH!!! I’M BACK!!

AND OMG, the hug between Rey and Leia… I was at work in the teacher’s lounge watching this and I got teary and almost started full-on crying.

And then the other part that literally made me jump was hearing Palpatine’s laugh at the end of the trailer…I was freaked out! He’s back! Wait what!! What if he’s been controlling Kylo Ren this whole time???
