Sunshine Blogger Award Blog Post

It’s not everyday you find out that you have been nominated for a blogger award, tagged by another fellow blogger. Megan from A Geeky Gal tagged me and a few other bloggers for the Sunshine Blogger Award. This article post lists the questions she posed for me and my answers.

What song do you think makes people remember you?

I have no idea what song makes people remember me. If I had to take a guess, I suppose a song I always sing at karaoke would be the best guess. My go-to karaoke songs include Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out,” and Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name.” None of these songs contain any meaning that would remind people of me but they are my favorite songs to sing to.

What character would you choose to be your best friend?

I can’t just pick one, because there are several characters from books and TV shows that I liked.

  • From ABC’s family comedy Single Parents, my best friend would be Angie D’Amato (played by Leighton Meester).
  • From CW’s original witch drama Charmed, my best friend would be Piper (played by Holly Marie Combs), even though I would probably never see her and she’d be terrible at replying to text messages.
  • From Fox’s family comedy Raising Hope, my best friend would be Sabrina (played by Shannon Woodward), because she had such sass that mirrored my own.

What book do you need to read/game you need to play/show you need to watch?

I need to finish reading John Green’s Turtles All The Way Down. It’s been hard to find time to read when you’re juggling two side hustles and managing a team of writers. I love John Green’s books; it’s one of the few I need to read (that and Will Grayson, Will Grayson).

Have you smashed any personal goals recently?

Define “recently.” LOL. I wrote a first draft to book three of my work-in-progress YA fantasy series during National Novel Writing Month last year so I’m very proud of that, given that I had to work longer hours at my day job during the holidays.

If someone wanted to understand you, what should they read, watch, and play?

book cover of Jean Ferris's "Once Upon a Marigold"

If someone wanted to understand me, I think they should definitely read Jean Ferris’s children’s or middle grade book, Once Upon a Marigold. It was one of my favorite books when I first started reading for pleasure in middle school. (I actually did not enjoy reading very much in elementary school but that changed as soon as I got to middle school and had access to more middle grade and young adult lit books.)

List your favorite fandoms and one character from each that you identify with.

  • Bob’s Burgers: Tina Belcher
  • The Orville: Lieutenant Gordon Malloy
  • 12 Monkeys: Jennifer Goines

What are three things that you are enjoying right now?

Self-care

Taking a nice hot bath every weekend! I use this time to listen to an audiobook on Audible. Since my commute to work is short and I go to kickboxing after work (I need music for that drive), I don’t really have much time during the day to fully pay attention to an audiobook.

Cappuccino

Taking care of my Syrian hamster Cappuccino (AKA Cappy). She is my first pet (I wanted dogs forever, but my mom did not want the house get to dirty). I decided to get a hamster last summer because I wanted a pet but I didn’t want a dog at the moment due to my current living situation. Since I adopted her, I’ve learned so much about Syrian hamsters. She’s quite mischievous but she’s still my fur baby. 🙂

Game of Thrones

Consuming all things Game of Thrones! Literally, I am nearly finished with a bag of limited Game of Thrones edition of Oreos.

What is your favorite YouTube channel?

Definitely Victoria Raechel. She is a pet expert on small animals. She’s owned hamsters and bunnies for years. She also has a dog and she used to have a cat (RIP Callie). Since I got my Cappuccino last July, I have been watching Victoria Raechel’s videos since last winter and I enjoy her content. She gives great advice on taking care of hamsters. Her own hamsters are/were adorable.

My runner-up favorite YouTube channel is the Vlogbrothers because again, I love John Green and Hank Green and their work and contributions to the world.

List three of your favorite songs right now.

Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out”

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts’ “I Hate Myself For Loving You”

Kaleo’s “Way Down We Go”

What are some ways you practice self-care that others might consider different or weird?

Don’t open your inbox when you wake up. It’s hard because we’re attached to our phones and if you’re a productive busy bee like me, you’re tempted to check your inbox first thing in the morning. To give myself more “me time,” I just remind myself that inbox can wait. I can enjoy my breakfast and watch YouTube videos or re-watch Game of Thrones.

What is the hardest part about blogging?

I don’t do very much writing these days (for the website and for my work-in-progress)… I mostly edit and prep articles to publish on the website and I juggle my podcast responsibilities too for The Bingeables Podcast. The hardest thing about blogging is just finding time to write that doesn’t involve losing sleep. Can’t we just get three-day weekends all the time?

Thank you to Megan from A Geeky Gal for tagging me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. This blog post was fun to write!
