Whether you’ve been a longtime fan or you are discovering J.K. Rowling’s world for the first time, you will feel right at home at LeakyCon, the largest fan-led Harry Potter convention. Tickets for this year’s LeakyCon sold out so fast last year that Mischief Management had to change the venue! LeakyCon celebrates all things Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts. The convention took place last weekend Aug. 10-12 at the downtown Dallas Convention Center and was jam-packed with wondrous panels, ecstatic Potterheads, Wizard rock bands, awesomely creative vendors, kind volunteers and staff, and of course, celebrity talent.
This was also my first year at LeakyCon, and I had a great time attending the “Acting As a Young Wizard” panel with Devon Murray (Seamus Finnigan), Luke Youngblood (Lee Jordan), and Ellie Darcey-Alden (young Lily Evans).
The moderator kicked off the panel asking the three actors about how they got their roles and how they responded.
Any on-set stories or fun facts? We heard plenty!
Ellie told us an on-set story about her first interaction with Maggie Smith.
@Elliedalden says she walked to the front of the hall for the Sorting Hat, sees Maggie Smith, & was told not to talk to her. "I'm really clumsy! We sat there & Maggie Smith comes up to me and says my hair is beautiful!" #LeakyCon #leakycon2018 pic.twitter.com/OUSMeclaW0— Geek Gals (@geekgalsco) August 10, 2018
The moderator segued the conversion to ask the actors what advice they had for aspiring young actors.
So what are these actors up to now? They talk about their upcoming projects.
@Elliedalden just graduated high school! 🎓 "In my perspective, you only get your education once. I have my whole life ahead of me to act. That's what I've been focusing on the past 4 years." #LeakyCon #leakycon2018 pic.twitter.com/zO3WZWHZ9E— Geek Gals (@geekgalsco) August 10, 2018
This panel was a blast for opening day of LeakyCon. If you missed the convention this year, don’t worry: You can purchase tickets for next year’s LeakyCon at either the Dallas event (back by popular demand!) on Aug. 9-11, 2019 or the Boston event (the 10th anniversary!) on Oct. 11-13, 2019.
