PEOPLE, THIS IS NOT A DRILL! IT’S HERE!!!!!!!!!!
HBO dropped the MUCH-ANTICIPATED, LONG-AWAITED official trailer for the final season of Game Of Thrones on Tuesday March 5.
And of course, SPOILERS ahead. You’ve been warned.
If you haven’t watched it, WATCH IT NOW!! We’ve embedded it for you so no need to search for it. 😉
First of all…ARYA
The first shot in the trailer is Arya… sweaty from running… in the crypts? Secret tunnels in Winterfell?? Under the Red Keep? WHERE? And the look on her face is one of terror.
There’s a glimpse of what looks to be a wight chasing her.
It then cuts to shots of Davos and Varys, and then back to Arya with a dagger that appears to be made of dragonglass. Perhaps preparing for Wights or perhaps another enemy on her kill list?
PROTECT ARYA AT ALL COSTS!
Cersei and co.
Next up is what is most likely the Gold Company on their way to Westeros… hired by Cersei and ferried from Essos by Euron Greyjon. They will ambush Jon and Daenarys’ forces in the North. And I know I said I would stick to the TV show. BUT in the books, the Golden Company was started by a Targaryen descendant. So perhaps they switch allegiances?
Next up we have Bran
Bran begins speaking and it sounds as though he is talking to Jon. Perhaps revealing Jon’s true identity as the legitimate son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen? While showing Dolores Edd, Tormund, and Beric Dondarrion through tunnels of some sort. Why is everyone underground? Is this to get away from the Army of the Dead? Can the Army of the Dead not use stairs?
And let’s take a moment to appreciate Tormund and Dondric surviving the melting of the Wall courtesy of Ice Dragon Viserion from the season 7 finale. I have been worried about this for 18 months or however long it’s been.
As Bran continues, there’s a scene with Cersei and creepy Qyburn looking concerned. And then Daenarys and Jon are riding together along with the Unsullied.
Sansa, Arya, and Jon
Sansa and Arya get their first glimpses of the dragons and then Jon intones that the Army of the Dead doesn’t tire… You know, Jon’s usual droning on and on about the Great War, Wights, etc.
This is followed by a montage of Gendry, Jorah Mormont, and Greyworm all in various states of preparing for battle. Okay, so now I’m getting nervous…
And we have Cersei again…
Then it’s a shot of Cersei’s Throne Room (empty?? Why??) and then Cersei drinking wine… Hold up… Cersei drinking WINE??
WINE?? She wouldn’t drink wine with Tyrion in the last episode of season 7 because she was preggers… So, is she no longer with child???
This is followed up by a gorgeous shot of the dragons flying through what looks like North of the Wall, perhaps?
Battle scenes!
More battle scenes and Jaime Lannister urging that he promised to fight for the living…perhaps trying to convince TEAM JON/DANY that he’s there to really help.
Side note: So how will Bran feel about Jaime coming back to Winterfell since the last time they met, he tossed Bran out the window? This will be awkward.
Dragons!
Then Jon and Daenarys are approaching Drogon and Rhaegal TO MAYBE RIDE THE DRAGONS!!!!! OMG DRAGON RIDERS! WHAT!!! I’M NOT READY!
This is immediately followed by a shot of a very concerned looking Sansa….between you, me and the fencepost… I don’t trust Sansa. She might not be happy about Jon bending the knee to Daenarys. And I think she honestly considers Cersei a mentor of sorts. Hmmmm.
Tyrion and more battle scenes
The trailer ends with views of Tyrion and more battle scenes. From what I can tell, the battle looks to be the Battle of Winterfell as the Army of the Dead invades. BUT!! It ends with a roar of fire from Drogon… Perhaps the dragons have the last word?
Me after watching it 50 times:
Me trying to sleep tonight when I have 50,000 scenarios, outcomes, and theories all running through my head:
What say you Geek Gals?? Who will sit on the Iron Throne? What happens with Jon and Auntie Daenarys? IS Bran the Night King?? So MANY POSSIBILITIES!
